MAPS - Medlab Advanced Printing System

Medlab introduces, as an industry first, the Medlab Advanced Printing System (MAPS), featuring a wireless connection between most Medlab medical devices and a standard PCL5(*) compatible laser printer.

It is now possible to print recorded patient trend data on standard laser printers, in a quality and speed that, up to now, had been unknown to users of medical patient monitors.

All Medlab desktop models and most new handheld types are available with the MAPS option. They are able to transfer stored trend data directly to standard laser printers, using an advanced, crypted wireless connection. The unique system uses Bluetooth Class 1 as a secure transport layer. At the printer site, a small receiver box is connected to the USB interface of the printer and receives and decodes the data sent by Medlab monitors. Reliable data transmission and printing is secured by several layers of error correction and detection mechanisms. Printouts are automatically generated in the selected language of the device's user interface. The user can choose between different formats for the hardcopy, e.g. tabular - or graphical trends. Also available is a histogram - and a statistical page.

One server box at a printer can receive data from an unlimited number of Medlab pulse oximeters, capnographs and vital signs monitors, so one printer box is sufficient for a complete department using Medlab devices. If the printer has two interface connections, it can even serve as a standard PC connected printer and a Medlab print server at the same time(**).

The system removes the need for complicated archival of thermal paper, where one needs to glue several stripes to a normal piece of paper and then copy it. The problem of bleaching, for which thermal paper is notorious, does not exist with the high resolution laser prints.
